Until recent years, North Carolina has had a strong tradition of being a leader in public education. One of the first schools to be established by the legislature is right here in Eastern North Carolina. The reasons for public education then and now are the same. Public education builds the educated, informed citizenry on which society depends. An early investment in education earns dividends in not only economic development, but also in improved public safety and quality of life. A strong system of public education gives the citizens of North Carolina equal opportunity.
Eastern North Carolina has experienced economic development because of investments in our history, our bases, private industry, agriculture, and tourism. We have seen economic growth, but much remains to be done. Carr remembers when job opportunities were few. Most were limited to farming, fishing, working at Maola or Cherry Point. The growth of opportunities in Eastern North Carolina can be attributed to public and private sectors working together. Carr has been actively engaged in facilitating those partnerships through his support of business retention, expansion and recruitment, and education. He sees continued economic development as essential to maintaining and growing a strong middle class.
Carr is especially committed to reopening the lines of communication between Eastern North Carolina’s citizens and the North Carolina Senate. He believes that Eastern North Carolina deserves responsive representation in Raleigh. Carr’s years of experience in both the educational setting and his community have shown him how essential it is to solicit input from others and to exchange ideas. He recognizes that the best solutions come from bringing people together with various points of view to discern a solution best for all. Carr is committed to being responsive and to being a voice for the many citizens of Eastern North Carolina.
Carr believes that Eastern North Carolina needs to be a part of the discussion in Raleigh.
